Moving with pets is a different experience for everyone. Some pets adjust fairly quickly to their new surroundings, which greatly benefits their owners. But if your pet feels homesick or has difficulty adjusting to his new home, there are precautions you can take.
If uncomfortable with their new surroundings, some dogs and cats will attempt to “find their way home.” In other words, they may leave the new house and venture to the old house. If moving with pets, keep a close eye on your dog and cat for the first few weeks. If you normally allow your pet outside alone, make sure that gates are closed and secured tightly. And if walking your dog around the neighborhood, keep him on a leash.
Prior to moving with pets, it is a good idea to leave your new address and telephone number with the people who moved into your old home – just in case your dog or cat ends up on their front porch.
