When planning for your big move, it’s important to be organized and have a system. Here are some helpful moving tips to get you prepared.
Round up plenty of supplies. You’ll need more boxes than you think, so plan ahead and round up the supplies early. If you buy boxes from a moving company, you can always return unused boxes for a refund. Also keep extra empty boxes aside for moving day for the extras that always end up lying around (cleaning supplies, bedding, etc.).
Keep things together. Whether you’re moving yourself or are utilizing the services of movers, insist on keeping things together when moving the packing boxes. Keep extension cords with appliances and bookends with the books. Tape cable TV cords to the TV and picture hooks to the pictures. Or at least have a “parts box” with all parts you need for items like these.
Pack ahead of time. Make your moving day go so much more smoothly by packing well ahead of time. Box up extra cosmetics, pack away winter clothes if it’s summer time. Pare down cooking items and food supplies to just what’s needed.
Keep important papers with you. Pack away the other supplies, but leave the important items out in case you find they’re needed before, during or shortly after the move.
Create personal boxes for right after the move. Have each person in the house fill a box with items they’ll want “right away” in the new home so you can avoid digging through half empty boxes to find missing items.
Plan ahead for a smooth, stress-free moving day.
